Quake Wars

While the release date for Enemy Territory: Quake Wars remains “sometime 2006,” Activison has announced that some retailers will begin accepting pre-orders at the end of July. The cost of reserving a copy wasn’t mentioned, but some of the perks were; most notably, players will be able to call dibs on their favorite username before the game’s official launch. There’s also the promise of receiving “advanced strategies and gameplay tactics,” though it’s doubtful such information will remain exclusive for any longer than it takes to copy-and-paste into a public forum.

Chow Yun Fat in Stranglehold for the PS3

It had been suspected for a while, but today IGN confirmed with Midway that John Woo Presents Stranglehold will launch on November 17th with the Playstation 3. Of course, the title will also be launching for the Xbox 360 and the PC at the same time. This is great news for fans of gunfighting, slow-mo and Chow Yun Fat, and appears to be one of the stronger launch titles for the PS3.

IGN earlier had a chance to play through a demo and was impressed with the completely destructible environment and free-form gunfighting controls. This sounds like one of those games that’s going to be a great way to demo your brand-spanking new PS3 to your jealous friends on launch day.

Well, now you can have all the excitement of getting a PSP without the pesky nuisance of actually dealing with people. According to twice.com, Sony is test-marketing a series of “Sony Access” vending machines that will sell items such as PSPs, video games, MP3 players, and digital cameras.

Three trial machines were recently placed in malls in Georgia, Colorado, and California, with more to follow (assuming they’re successful.) Fortunately, you don’t have to pay with hundreds of singles…the machine accepts both debit and credit cards and will automatically cancel your order if something goes wrong.

Final Fantasy IIIFor all you Japanese-fluent Final Fantasy addicts looking to import the FF III DS remake, MTV is reporting that August 24th, 2006 has been set as the Japanese release date. They also note that the price is somewhat higher than normal - 5,980 yen (about $53!). Given that pricing on other DS games in Japan is slightly higher than normal, this suggests that FFIII will retail for somewhere around $45 in the states. Lik-sang is currently listing $49.90 as the price for those of you looking to import early - not bad!

The game is scheduled to come state-side in September. Isn’t it nice to see Nintendo and Square playing nice again?

If you were wondering how the Vision Camera would work in UNO, her eis your answer. Maestro1, a camera beta tester, showed up in a game where another player quickly grabbed 40 seconds of video. Not much to see in the video itself, other than a dog standing still for quite a while, then simply walking away - but still cool nonetheless. The Xbox Live Vision Camera is set to launch in North America and Europe on September 19, 2006.
